How we earn money & avoid conflicts

Money.com.au has strict rules and policies in place that ensure we can provide accurate and reliable information to consumers about financial products, without it being influenced by our commercial arrangements.

How we avoid conflicts

Integrity of our product comparisons

  • Our product comparison tables display all products available in our database, not just the ones that pay us. We include as many products as we can in our tables, based on our team's extensive market research, but we do not guarantee that all products available in the market are included.
  • Providers of financial products cannot pay to appear in our comparison tables if they are not eligible based on our inclusion criteria. For example, in our savings account and term deposit rates tables, we only include products from authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs).

Transparent sponsored content

  • Where a product is promoted on our site, we always clearly mark it as such e.g. with a ‘sponsored’ tag. We only show promoted products that are relevant to the topic of a particular page on our site.

Editorial integrity

  • Where our Editorial team identifies particular products to be highlighted in our content, this is done based on the merits of the product only, without any influence from our commercial arrangements. We always clearly explain our rationale for featuring a product in our Editorial content. Read more about our Editorial standards.

Best-interest duty

  • Our in-house mortgage brokers are bound by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission’s ‘best-interest duty’ (RG 273). This requires them to act in the best interests of consumers when providing credit assistance. Where there is a conflict of interest, our mortgage brokers must prioritise the interests of consumers.

How we earn money

Money.com.au may earn money from the providers of financial products and services if a customer is referred to them via our website. This may happen in one of the following ways:

Broker commission

  • We may earn a commission from a lender if one of our in-house brokers refers one of our customers to that lender. This is typically an up-front commission based on a percentage of the loan amount. In some cases, we may also receive a regular commission from the lender for as long as the customer remains on the loan.

Provider referrals

  • We may earn a commission from one of our commercial partners if a customer of ours applies for a financial product having been referred to the provider via our website. This is typically a one-off commission that varies based on the product type, the specific product and the partner, among other factors.
  • For health insurance advice, we have partnered with The ItsMy Group (IMG) to form our panel. If a Money.com.au insurance advisor helps you find a more suitable product and you join that health insurer, IMG receive a payment from that fund which they pass on to us. This is normally a one-off fee but it can also be paid in increments over time. There is no charge to consumers to use the service, and any payment we receive does not change the price you pay for the product. Our health insurance advisors do not know how much we are paid by the fund they recommend.

Broker referrals

  • We may earn a commission if we refer a customer to a partner brokerage that helps our users find and apply for a financial product. This is typically a one-off commission that varies based on the product type and other factors.
